King Farouk of Egypt really had no appreciation for U.S. Coins. He just bought whatever was available at any price. However, he did own some of the greatest U.S. Coins ever struck.

Some of his coins were the Ultra Rare 1838 Proof Eagle (1of 2 in public hands), the elusive 1933 Double Eagle which sold for a record $7.3 million and the 1907 Indian Head Double Eagle pattern which is considered priceless.

Many great collections were formed from the sale of the King’s coins, Pittman and the Norweb Collections mainly.

Owned by King Farouk of Egypt, sold to John Jay Pittman in 1954.
